For Leadbeater's Possums
Both the photographic and video works are site-specific in the Yellingbo Nature Conservation Reserve, east of Melbourne where only 40 Leadbeater’s Possums are believed to remain. Their population has been severely affected by colonial history and human activities.
This Performance Art video is inspired by Shinto female ritual dance and Les Indes Galantes by Jean-Philippe Rameau, firstly presented in Paris in 1735. This Baroque Opera-Ballet's Scene IV is a major part, set in a forest in North America, on the border of the French and Spanish colonies where they celebrate a peaceful forest, valuing Indigenous culture. This Performance Art Video blurs the boundaries between humans and non-humans.
